Approximately 76 public sculptures in Caldwell County, the largest collection in the nation for a community its size, will be the focus of a special segment on UNC-TV's "North Carolina Now" on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Each year for the past 21 years, Caldwell Arts Council in partnership with Tri-State Sculptors Association, hosts an Indoor/Outdoor Sculpture Celebration. The 2006 competition drew approximately 65 national artists showing 110 pieces of work. Activities such as the Blue Jean Preview Party and the Sculptor's Slide Show and discussion drew crowds of the community and from across the state.

Even more important is the public collection of sculpture, with more than 50 pieces in outdoor settings around the county. What began as a simple way to enhance the environment of Lenoir and surrounding areas has proven economically and visually important to the growth of the community. Visitors from across the state now contact the local Convention and Visitor's Bureau, requesting information on the sculpture, and new projects involving public art and partnership are springing up around the city.

For more information on Caldwell County's collection of public sculpture, tune in to UNC-TV's "North Carolina Now" on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. or visit Caldwell Arts Council's Web site at www.caldwellarts.org.
