Lewellen Daniel Padgett, a native of Richmond, Virginia, is an artist and yoga teacher living, working and practicing in Salisbury at her studio, Artemesia Artworks & Yoga Studio. She is a Virginia Commonwealth University graduate and has shown in galleries in Virginia and North Carolina extensively including the Waterworks Visual Arts Center.
This current exhibition at Karma in the Winston Salem Downtown Arts District is entitled Sweet Containment. Lewellen is a shadow box construction artist. She uses the parameters of various sizes of wooden boxes as her medium, filling them with objects assembled to express her thoughts on the spiritual and psychological aspects of creativity, yoga and meditation. Many are altars meant to be used for thoughtful reflection, a place where symbols and dreams come together. Lewellen feels that there are magical, connecting spirits housed in the artful placement of each object, spirits which stimulate the viewer’s imagination and participation in the work.
Sweet Containment will be shown Friday, May 4 through June 29, at Karma, 206 West Sixth Street, Winston Salem.
